I started my professional life in a French bank which, after a few months at its Paris headquarters, offered me a position in its New York subsidiary. I worked as a financial analyst while taking evening classes in acting and legal philosophy at the New School for Social Research. It was at the New School that I discovered the philosophy of law and authors who, like Herbert L.A. Hart, had a great impact on me. It was also there that I became aware of my taste for the " world of ideas " (to use Raymond Aron's beautiful expression) and for law in particular.

Back in France, I (re-)enrolled in a Law School with the ambition of an academic career. I had the chance to study private law and philosophy of law while having, at the same time, the privilege to keep links with the corporate world. I was able to write my dissertation in private law with the support of Axa, which welcomed me for a little more than 4 years in its subsidiary dedicated to major international risks.

I defended my thesis entitled "Research on the notion of causality" under the direction of Horatia Muir Watt at the University of Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne in 2005 ( you can read my dissertation by clicking here). Since then, I have been fortunate to be able to pursue an academic career, first as a lecturer and then as a professor.

I am a professor of private law at the University of Lorraine and holder of the Digital, Governance and Sovereignty Chair de Sciences Po. During the 2023-2024 academic year, I am visiting professor at the Cyber Policy Center from Stanford.
